For a healthy balance

Visceral Osteopathy

Relieving blockages and restoring healthy function

Our organs form an internal elastic support system. They are enveloped by the musculoskeletal system (spine, muscles and ligaments); in other words, the musculoskeletal system rests on the ‘cushion’ of the internal organs whilst maintaining a normal state of tension. There is a mechanical balance between the two, which is important for our ability to stand upright and for our health.

All internal organs and tissues possess a certain degree of tension and elasticity in order to fulfil their functions. These qualities are assessed prior to treatment, and any disturbances or malfunctions are diagnosed.

Each organ also has a certain sensitivity to everyday situations. For example, blood flow to the stomach lining changes depending on the strain placed on it. Thus, our diet, the quality of our food, whether we eat in a relaxed manner or under time pressure, as well as many other emotional states, can influence the normal function and metabolism of our organs.

Prolonged stressful situations cause the organ to become fatigued, and its reflex mechanisms – which are controlled via the circulatory and nervous systems – become exhausted.

The organ now has the option of compensating for this tension via neighbouring organs, or by adjusting the surrounding musculature or posture. This can then lead to strain on certain muscle groups, the intervertebral discs, or blockages in the spine.

The aim is to release these blockages and restore healthy function.

Visceral osteopathy is effective for

  • digestive complaints
  • Stomach pain and stomach disorders
  • Liver disorders
  • irritable bowel syndrome
  • Chronic bowel conditions; e.g. Crohn’s disease/ulcerative colitis
  • Bile problems
  • Chronic cystitis
  • Functional kidney disorders (e.g. congestion due to kidney prolapse)
  • Organ prolapse (ptosis)
  • Lung conditions (asthma, chronic bronchitis)
  • For general immune stimulation
  • Chronic fatigue
  • Post-operative care (scar tissue)
  • Chronic organ-related back pain
  • Lymphatic congestion

Visceral osteopathy is a holistic manual therapy that aims to restore a healthy balance between the internal organs and the musculoskeletal system.
